Bryan’s Black Mmmmmmm…..

Bryan’s Black Mountain BBQ…thats what i was trying to say. This place is really good. Far, but good. About 45 minutes northwest of Scottsdale, on the outskirts of civilization here in the desert, is the town of Cave Creek. Nestled in between the questionably authentic biker bars, cowboy saloons and numerous shops to buy southwestern art and trinkets is Bryans Black mountain BBQ. Brick walls, hand painted wood signs, western movie posters, and pipe rails give the space a retro but modern feel, all the while remaining very cozy. When it comes to good BBQ, i could care less what the place looks like as long as the meat is good, but this place is bright and inviting. The smoky smell fills your nose the second you walk in. Let the mouth watering begin.

Bryan was a chef at the upscale Fairmont Resort here in Scottsdale for over a decade before hanging up his kitchen whites to dive into his true passion, BBQ. Thank goodness for us he did. Possibly the best brisket i’ve ever had, definitely giving Stacy some stiff competition. The brisket and the chicken boths were tender and smoky, chopped into bite size pieces that immediately fall apart in your mouth. The toasted buns held up to the BBQ sauce and didn’t get too soggy over the course of the meal which can be a problem for me when eating BBQ. Also, because the buns were toasted, each bite started off with a slight crunch, which was a nice contrast in texture from the soft, perfectly cooked meat.

If for some reason you’re not happy with your meal, feel free to tell the man himself. Bryan was seen walking around his restaurant greeting customers and engaging in, im sure, BBQ and other food related conversations. I get the feeling though he wasn’t receiving any complaints. Like i said, Cave Creek isn’t exactly around the corner…but considering the BBQ i got at Scottsdale BBQ Company which IS just around the corner…i’m happy to make the drive to see Bryan again.
