TT, Tortas & Tacos

I had known about Tacos Jalisco for some time before i finally made the decision to stop in. i also knew this place was good as soon as i walked in. there’s A LOT of mexican food out here in phoenix, and the fact that brian and i were the only two non-mexican people in the place meant something. if it’s good enough for the local mexican folks, that’s a sign to me that tacos jalisco have gotta be doing something right. there’s actually a phone in the restaurant specifically for making calls to mexico. lucky for me it’s a hop, skip and a jump away from one of my favorite dive bars, TT Roadhouse. a couple tacos always make for some post drinking grub. one evening after meeting up with brian and jeremiah for a few cold pints and the greatest juke box around, brian and i decided it was time to stop in and give it a try. the place has all the ambiance of a jail cell…literally, the ultra bright florescent lighting is horrible and there’s metal bars across all the windows. though after eating a few of these tasty morsels, i think they should be more concerned about thieves breaking in to steal some of that carne asada as opposed to any cash in the register.  Tacos here are served street style, small and on a warm corn tortilla. No cheese, no lettuce. I got a couple chicken tacos and one carne asada taco.  I have no idea what they do to their meat, but that was the tastiest carne asada i have ever had. Each bite bursting with flavor and the perfect amount of spice. The origins of some of the meat might be questionable, but after you get a taste of one bite, who cares. it;s all part of the experience. An added bonus, to me at least, is the fact that you can get a big glass bottle of mexican coca cola to wash down your meal. coke tastes so much better when pure can sugar is used in replace of the usual high fructose corn syrup used here in the states, especially it’s drank when out of a glass bottle. judging by the photos on the wall, there appears to be a lot of other traditional mexican food options worth trying…if i could only stray from those carne asada tacos.

Would i go back? Already have, twice….
