Mole!!
Recently, Julie and I had the pleasure of being visited by my brother and his family. I know everyone probably says this, but i really do have the cutest niece and nephew in the world. Like many east coasters that come out here for a long weekend visit, good mexican food is usually on the list of must have eats. Luckily for them, and for us locals as well, there is no shortage of good mexican food around. We decided to stay local in the Old Town area and picked Frank & Lupes since they have a nice lively outdoor patio area that would be great for the kids and allow us to dine al fresco. Fortunately, this meal was on my brother Evan, so the margaritas and tequila shots came on a rather regular basis which is fine by me.
We were both very happy with our meals. Julie opted for one of the specials, enchiladas suiza. Enchiladas suiza are enchiladas stuffed with chicken, green chiles & spinach, then smothered with a creamy green chile sauce and covered with melted cheese. Sounds delicious, and according to Julie, it certainly was. I, personally, am a huge mole fan, so anytime i see mole on a menu it’s a no brainer for me. Mole isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of mexican food. its a brown, creamy, chocolate based sauce. Saying it’s a chocolate based sauce though is deceiving, it’s not sweet at all, nor does it really taste like your eating chocolate syrup by any means. And like Julie’s enchiladas, mine were equally delicious. Both meals came with all the usual mexican sides, rice, beans, salsa, chips etc, so there was plenty of food. A couple fresh and warm sopaipillas served with the meal are always an added bonus as well to help satisfy my sweet tooth.
Would i go back? Si! Gracias
