I Out Eat My Boyfriend

I’m a big fan of sushi. So by no surprise, I opted for sushi when asked to pick my birthday dinner spot. The Oldtown Scottsdale location of RA has been the go-to sushi spot since my move West. I suppose since it was just Darin and I celebrating my big 2-7, we forewent the social/party scene of RA and hit up the smaller/less known Blue Wasabi instead. We didn’t know much about Blue Wasabi, other than it was located in the Hilton Village shopping center 5 miles down the road from our house.  The low lit, blue toned restaurant provided the perfect mood for our small celebratory occasion. And you better believe I didn’t hold back. How does it go - “its my birthday, and I’ll eat all the raw fish I want to”??

What’s a birthday without a pretty pink cocktail? I can’t quite remember what this drink was called or what it all entailed. Thankfully, the waitress was privy enough to help me choose between the two drinks I was teetering between - she indicated right away to go with this one -whatever it is -  very, very good.

Just as much as it is no surprise I’m a big fan of sushi, it i not a shocker to know Darin’s dislike for fish; raw or not. Ordering just these Chicken Macadamia Strips, Darin MUST have left hungry!

Caterpillar Roll

Spicy Tuna Roll

I, on the other hand, was stuffed after shoving not 1, but 2 order of rolls down! While the sushi was fresh and satisfied the sushi withdrawal symptoms I had been suffering, Blue Wasabi didn’t quite knock it out of the ballpark for me. It was simply, ok.

Would I go back? Probably not. If I want mediocre sushi, I’ll stick to going to RA’s happy hour 1/2 priced sushi & $1 sake’s.

**EDIT**

Julie must have had one too many birthday drinks, because she forgot i also ordered a Get Clucked Roll. This non seafood roll consists of tempura chicken, asparagus and cucumber topped with avocado and a sweet chili glaze.
