There’s No Place Like Home
…or a friend’s home. And that’s just how it felt when we dined at the Oldtown Scottsdale’s Eddie’s House. After receiving a thumbs up review by our food loving friends Justine and Jeremiah, Darin and I headed to Eddie’s to fill up our Friday evening. (Eating is our main source of entertainment.) After crossing through the enormous doored entryway, we entered into a fairly full dining room, dimly lit and oozing a sophisticated comfortability. However, my thought prior to being sat was that this place was perhaps TOO refined or “adult” for us. Thankfully, this thought subsided rather immediately. There were two things in particular that made our time at Eddie’s House one of my personal favorite dining outings.
#1) Our waiter (and I wish I could remember his name) at Eddie’s House was both friendly and well informed. He was a natural with making conversation and offered up helpful suggestions while ordering. We often have servers who are nothing but nice, but it makes the experience that much better, when you have one that you’d feel comfortable pushing out a chair and inviting to join in the dinner with you.
#2) The menu allows for both small and large plates. This allows their patrons to enjoy a handful of the menu items without breaking the bank…And that’s just what we did. I choose some of what I wanted, Darin did the same.

Blue Cheese Butter / Pesto. Hands down the most creamy, flavorful mix to the everyday butter & bread. It was hard not to fill my appetite on this alone.

Hand pulled mozzarella. Trust me, it tasted ALOT better than it looks here. I liked that they didn’t try to stack the mozzarella on top of the tomatoes, making it much easier to slice.

Scallops with goat cheese risotto. This was one of my picks as scallops are a favorite of mine. Luckily, they are meaty enough that Darin doesn’t turn his nose up much like he does with most fishes. These were superb with just the right firmness and not overly sauced.

Though not incredibly visible in this photo, Darin’s choice of sweet potato gnocchi with chorizo. Again, another dish that was spot on. Who knew chorizo would pair so well with soft, chewy, sweet gnocchi?! While asking Darin to help describe this one, I was returned a “mmmm chorizo”.

Prosciutto Mac ‘n’ Cheese. This item and the next Darin and I both agreed on. Because really, if you know either Darin or myself, you know how love for cheese. My tastebuds have yet to be swayed on Honey Bear’s creamy delicious bowl of heavenly mac ‘n’ cheese (that will be a tough one to beat) but Eddie’s House ranks right up there. The cheese clung to the ridged spiraled noodles and being topped with a crunchy prosciutto added an unique and welcomed touch.

Bacon infused Meatloaf, yukon gold mashed potatoes, mushroom jus lie, onion string. We couldn’t pass up this signature dish…and that waiter of ours wouldn’t have let us if we tried. This was by far, both Darin and I’s favorite component of the meal. Everything about this said comfort, comfort, comfort. Give me this warm, mushy mash of goodness on any cold night!
Would I go back? We have already, unfortunately we only got to grab one drink at the bar before our group birthday dinner plans were busted. When the table we were waiting on was snagged up by a rather ruthless and grumpy old man and his group, our group decided to take the party elsewhere.
