You Like-a Da Sauce?
Casual. Quick. Fun. Delicious.
According to the Fox Restaurant Concepts website, those are the 4 words that sum up Sauce. I’m finding it hard to with any of those descriptions. From my experience so far, the guys at Fox just know what’s up. Whether it’s an ultra modern high end steak house, or just a casual lunch spot to grab a quick pizza or salad with a glass of wine, Fox does it all and they do it right. Sauce has a handful of locations here in arizona and one up in denver, i met my friend tim at the one by me in downtown scottsdale for a quick lunch recently. Just like every other Fox restaurant, it’s pretty to look at. Clean, modern, colorful, bright, clean and comfy. The menu is rather streamlined, offering a few paninis, some pasta dishes, huge salads and of course a selection of pizzas. To go along with the streamlined menu is a small, but effective wine list that does the job. It’s counter service at sauce, order up front, you’re assigned a number and they bring your food to you. Before the food comes they bring you a couple rolls to enjoy which were delicious. Crusty on the outside, warm and doughy on the inside. I could have eaten just the rolls and been happy with my lunch. Tim got the chicken, pine nuts, tomato & gorgonzola chopped salad which was absolutely enormous and equally delicious as it was large. i’m not normally a salad guy, but this salad was really good and i just may have to get it next time i go back. Seeing as we were at sauce, i had to get something with sauce of course so i got a 12” pizza with sausage and roasted red bell peppers. perfectly cooked in their brick oven. the crust was thin and crispy with out being flimsy. the sauce was sweet and plentiful with a layer of perfectly melted cheese, sausage and peppers atop it. i ate the entire pizza. thanks to a rather thin crust, and very little grease i didn’t feel like a fat, disgusting mess on the way out. the service was just as good as the food. the employees all had smiling faces and were quick to help out in any way they could. as far the pizza goes, i’m not ready to put it up there with humble pie or lgo pizza, but for the price and the enjoyable experience it’s a great value. like the website says, Sauce is a great place for a quick, casual, fun and delicious lunch or even dinner. i’ll go ahead and also throw inexpensive in there which is rather important these days. There’s nothing fancy about this place. Everything is simple, fresh and served quickly with a smile.
Would i go back? Definitely. Julie hasn’t been yet and i’m sure she’d be a fan. Plus, i need that salad!
